In 1994 I experienced prison ministry for the first time. We assembled as a group of volunteers under a national ministry reaching out to the Central Florida Reception Center inmates. For ten hours that day we met with inmates and saw over 800 men raise their hands and make a commitment to follow Christ. A special blessing for me was personally leading many of those men to the Lord. I was hooked. That day God put a burden on my heart for prisoners that is even stronger today.

Over the years it has been my privilege to interact with hundreds of inmates in most of Central Florida’s prisons and other institutions throughout Florida, leading many to a saving faith in Christ.

But, as the years went by, a deeply troubling pattern became clear to me. In talking with inmates I learned that many have had repeated incarcerations. Even the Christian inmates were coming back to prison two, three, and even four times. They call it a revolving door, (recidivism).

For the past 3 years I have been seeking God’s direction as to how I could reach out to the Christian ex-prisoners of Central Florida and help them in their transition back to society. God answered that prayer through Final Freedom Aftercare.
