There are approximately two million people in American prisons! This gives the United States the ominous distinction of being the nation with the highest incarceration rate in the industrialized world. What can be done to turn the tide of violence and crime in American society? One obvious solution is to reduce the staggering 70% recidivism rate of ex-offenders who become repeat offenders.
Final Freedom Aftercare, has embarked on an ambitious plan to acclimate Christian ex-offenders into society so they remain just that, ex-offenders. We are a church based, volunteer-driven, Christian aftercare program that convert the negative impact of incarceration into a positive motivation for serving others. By providing the necessary support and assistance, Final Freedom Aftercare enables stabilized Christian ex-offenders, with the help of FFA volunteers and mentors, serve the transition needs of soon to be released inmates. This is carried out in the context of Service Groups. Through Service Groups, volunteers from the local churches pool their gifts and resources to provide the spiritual and material support the men and women need to transition from prison to the community, and a Christ centered life.
Our four phase program begins while participants are still in prison: six months to a year before release inmates are matched with a trained mentor and participate in a Life Planning Workshop. After their release, ex-offenders and their families join the local “Service Group” and, through a mentoring team, receive assistance and support in their transition back into society (including such basic needs as food, clothing, transportation, job-search resources, spiritual support and fellowship).
